Breaking News: Nigeria Police Arrest 1,284 Suspects, Recover 284 Firearms, Rescue 97 Kidnapped Victims in 6 Weeks
In a determined effort to combat crime and ensure the safety of citizens, the Nigeria Police Force, under the leadership of Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun PhD., NPM., has made significant strides in recent weeks.
Major Achievements
Over a span of just six weeks, the Nigeria Police have achieved remarkable results:
- Arrested 1,284 suspects, including:
- 307 armed robbery suspects
- 296 kidnapping suspects
- 301 homicide suspects
- 176 rape/defilement suspects
- 204 suspected cultists
- Recovered:
- 284 firearms
- 6,702 rounds of ammunition
- 107 vehicles
- Rescued 97 kidnapped victims
High-Profile Operations
One of the notable operations was the dismantling of a notorious robbery syndicate operating in the Jos-North/Jos South region of Plateau State. This 16-member group, including nine individuals posing as police officers, was involved in stealing motorcycles and tricycles. The police also apprehended a robber specialized in house burglaries, particularly targeting gold and other valuables, and a group of metal scavengers smuggling valuables hidden in refuse.
Commendations and New Initiatives
IGP Egbetokun has praised the officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force for their dedication and swift action. In line with strengthening crime-fighting efforts, the IGP has:
- Established an Anti-Money Laundering unit at the Force Headquarters, headed by CP Hycenth Edozie Azuka.
- Appointed a new commander for the IGP-STFPIB to tackle oil theft and pipeline vandalism.
